Seagrass Carpets – Supply & Fit in West Sussex

Natural, rustic, and incredibly practical. Bring the outdoors in.

Seagrass is grown in coastal meadows and spun into a strong, smooth yarn. It has a distinctive waxy coating which gives it natural stain resistance and a beautiful light-reflecting sheen. It is one of the most affordable natural floorings options, perfect for creating a relaxed, rustic atmosphere in your West Sussex home.

The Natural Choice

Seagrass is difficult to fit because it is rigid and can splinter. It must be double-stuck (glued to the underlay, and underlay glued to floor). We are specialist Seagrass fitters and strictly follow manufacturer guidelines to ensure a lasting fit. Seagrass typically comes in its natural colour—a mix of subtle greens, browns, and straw colours that mature to a golden tan over time. This makes it incredibly easy to live with as it hides dust and dirt effortlessly. The yarn is thick and chunky, usually in a Basketweave or Herringbone pattern.

Where This Carpet Works Best

Living & Dining Rooms: Its waxy surface makes it surprisingly good at repelling liquid spills if caught quickly. Bedrooms: Great for allergy sufferers as it doesn't trap dust like wool. We generally avoid Seagrass on stairs as it can be slippery in socks due to its smooth finish.

Supply & Fit or Fitting-Only

We offer a complete supply and fit service for Seagrass. We bring samples to you so you can see the chunky texture in your own room. Our fitters are experienced in handling this rigid material to ensure a neat finish around skirting boards.

⚠️ Specialist Fitting Required

Seagrass is a rigid fibre and can be difficult to fit on stairs (not recommended for novices). It requires acclimatisation. Like sisal, it is usually installed using the double-stick method for stability.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Seagrass smell?

It has a distinct "hay-like" smell when new, which many people love! It fades over a few weeks.

Can I put it on stairs?

It is possible for experienced fitters, but we often advise against it as it can be slippery and wears poorly on the nose edge compared to Sisal.

Does it change colour?

Yes, it starts with greenish tones and matures to a golden brown/straw colour as it dries out and ages.
